The first price is not the whole bill

Made-up example, VAT included

£8 for the first year

then £12 for each of the next two years

£32 over three years

A registration term, renewal quote and eligibility conditions matter as much as the opening price.

Example only, not a registrar offer. No extras included and no domain availability check.

Start with the exact name.

Say it aloud, type it from memory and check the full ending. Look for confusing spelling and a name that is too close to an existing business or brand. A domain being available does not settle other people's rights.

From a name
to a purchase.

You can use these steps with any registrar. Check its terms for the exact ending and offer you are considering.

Choose the name and ending together

Write down the complete address you want. Check any eligibility rules for the ending and whether your intended use fits them. Search that exact spelling at your chosen registrar, rather than buying a nearby suggestion by mistake.

Read the offer conditions

Find the full upfront charge, registration period, minimum commitment and who qualifies. A new-customer or first-order promotion may not apply to an existing account. A low first-year headline can still require payment for a longer term.

Find the renewal price before paying

Ask for the renewal price for the same ending and the term it covers. Use the same VAT basis throughout. Check whether a displayed amount is a registration, transfer or renewal price, and whether it includes compulsory fees.

Choose services on purpose

Review the basket for hosting, mailboxes, builders, security services and extra domain endings. Keep only what you need. For included services, check the covered period and the separate renewal price. A free trial is not the same as a service included throughout your registration.

Check the registrant and account access

Confirm the appropriate person or organisation will be recorded as the registrant. If someone buys on your behalf, agree who controls the account, registration email, renewal and DNS settings. Keep access to an email address you can still use if the new domain has a problem.

Check one offer
before checkout.

Enter the full quote, not just its first-year headline. The checker estimates payments to cover three years and produces questions for anything unresolved. All amounts must already include applicable VAT.

The whole payment for the selected term, including compulsory domain fees. Do not enter a monthly equivalent.

Needed when the initial term covers less than three years. The same annual renewal is assumed for later years.

Actual email and other extra payments

Include services bought with this domain. Enter 0 only if genuinely included or not needed. Use the full amount due in each year, including any prepaid commitment.

Use pounds without currency symbols or commas, with up to two decimal places. Figures stay in this page and are not sent or saved.

Choose the initial term to start. Unknown prices can stay blank.

Your quote review

The report will show the payment total when the necessary prices and offer eligibility are confirmed, plus questions you can take to the registrar.

A quote review is not an availability check, legal clearance or purchase approval. It does not place an order.

After paying,
check the registration.

A payment receipt is useful. Keep the domain and account details easy to find too.

Keep the confirmation

Check the exact name, registrant, registration term and renewal date against what you intended to buy. Keep the invoice and offer terms. Contact the registrar promptly if the record or service differs from the order.

Secure the account and renewal route

Use a unique password and two-factor authentication where offered. Keep contact and payment details current. Check auto-renewal settings, reminder arrangements and what happens if a payment fails. Calendar reminders can provide another prompt.

Connect services when you need them

You can hold a domain without publishing a website. When ready, follow the website or email provider's DNS instructions. Check what your existing platform already includes before buying another hosting package.

Know where to get help

Start with the registrar that manages your registration. For a .uk domain, Nominet also provides Online Services for registration details and registrar changes. Use its official guidance rather than sharing account credentials with another person.

These details help avoid paying for the wrong product or assuming a service is included.

Registration, transfer or renewal?Check which price you are looking at

Registration creates a new registration for an available name. Renewal extends an existing registration. A registrar transfer changes who manages it. Do not assume a transfer promotion is the price for registering your new name.

The checker is for a new registration with an initial term of one, two or three years, followed by annual renewals. It does not model transfers, aftermarket purchases or longer initial terms.

Is website hosting included?A domain does not create a website

A domain identifies the address. Hosting or a website platform supplies the website. A mailbox supplies email storage and sending; forwarding alone is a different service.

Ask what DNS management, forwarding, website publishing and email are actually included, for how long, and what renews separately. Provider packages differ.

Why is the cost sometimes unfinished?Unknown is different from free

The total needs an upfront amount, renewal prices where required, actual extras and confirmed offer eligibility. Treating a blank renewal or an inapplicable discount as free would make the quote misleading.

A three-year initial registration needs no domain renewal inside this comparison window. Later renewal still matters to your long-term decision. The tool assumes entered annual renewal prices remain unchanged and does not guarantee future prices.
